I think I may have just gotten a job. And I've only been looking for almost a year.

It's not a great job, just cashier at a convenience store, but it's a JOB!!!!

She said the schedule is already set for this week, so she wants me to come in on this coming Friday to figure out the scheduling to work around my classes, and start my training this weekend.

I'm March/April may turn out to be the best months of my year.

I've lost weight, gotten a man, and now it seems I've gotten a job.

This theory I had about a latent male gene inside myself causing me to fun far away from former sex partners may have just been disproved. I am currently skating on the high of having my second "date" with the same guy. Granted, these "dates" were separated by a bit of time, but still, I think my point stands.

ION: I've been in and out of many fandoms since my start as a yung'un in the BTVS fandom, like 10 years ago. And I know this has been a discussion of MUCH debate for all those years and many many many years before, but please people....if you're going to post a fic, no matter what it is, I'm begging you to have it beta read. Or at the very least, run it through a spelling/grammar check (grammar being very important for my point). It's gotten to the point where I'm actually expecting to see your/you're, there/their/they're mistakes. But the one that I've been seeing so much of lately is, for some unknown reason, using then instead of than. The phrase is NOT "better then that", it's "better THAN that".

Please, for the sake of my sanity? Also, because I've been rolling my eyes so much lately that it's starting to give me headaches.

Restless

I have no clue why I suddenly have Hold On by Wilson Phillips stuck in my head.

Does it make me insane that all I really want right now is someone to hold my hand while I watch TV?
luvxander: (Sam as your savior)
Due to changes at home, I will be without the internet while there for the next few days. We're changing companies and Mediacom shut us off today, but AT&T won't install until either Thursday or Friday of this week. I'll still have internet while at school and when visiting certain friends, so feel free to email and let me know what I'm missing.

Miss you guys!!

So, I was driving home from the grocery store today and I saw this billboard sign about the merger of Verizon and Alltel. The caption said "Verizon and Alltel: Better Together". And the first thing that popped into my head was, "I wonder if anyone else thinks about the Verizon guy doing naughty, possibly illegal, things to the Alltel guy?"

So there's your homework kids, answer that.

I was supposed to go to one of my weekly trivia nights tonight, this being the first week since we changed from Mondays at Mellow Mushroom to Wednesdays at Hopjacks. Since I don't know exactly where Hopjacks is, I was supposed to catch a ride with Margaret and Jason. Only they decided not to go. By the time I found out, it was too late to make other arrangements, so I didn't get to participate.

Instead, I spent most of my night just trying to decide what I wanted to watch to kill time. Since our cable is out, my options were severely limited. I finally settled on Being Human. I started with the pilot episode and am now on the second episode of the actual series itself.

It really is a very good show. I was happy about the casting changes for the characters of Mitchell and Annie. Mitchell was too tall and too skinny and I really didn't like the whole black coat and umbrella thing he had going. And Annie's voice was annoying in an extremely major way.

I was further saddened by the fact that the shows in my DVR queue are down to only five. I cleared out the shows that have been canceled and the stuff I don't actually watch anymore and am left with One Tree Hill, Supernatural, Smallville, Heroes, and Dollhouse. Hopefully, I'll be able to add more to that list once the new season starts. There seem to be some pretty good shows coming out.

Speaking of which, I found out tonight that Victor Webster (the hottie who played Brendon on Mutant X) is going to be playing Caleb, the gay character on the remake of Melrose Place. I was going to watch it anyway, but just keep it as a guilty pleasure. I'm very excited to have found my flimsy excuse should anyone call me on it. I would start praying now, if I thought it'd do any good, for CW to relax it's stance on male nudity in it's prime time lineup.

I can't really think of anything else to say and I suppose I've bored you people long enough. I'll just leave you with this George quote from Being Human, because I found it to be hilarious.

Any British peeps out there who can shed light on whether or not he's right? I already know it's not common practice to speak to your neighbors when you live in New York City.

George: We have to put a stop to this. Doesn't he understand? These people are British. You're not allowed to talk to your neighbors until you've nodded to them for 15 years.

I guess it has. Date on my last post was July 16. *wince* Sorry about that. I kinda got swamped by my finals and never seemed to recover.

But, school is done for summer semester. I made it out alive and walked away with a 3.57 GPA. I am quite proud of myself. Grades are as such, for those that wanted to know:

History: B
Psychology: B
Math: A
English: A

And surprisingly, the math and english scores are the ones that shocked me the most.

As for after classes ended, I haven't really been doing much of anything. I wanted to go to Writercon, but couldn't afford it. I think that's why I've been neglecting my flist lately. Reading about everyone else squeeing over going was just depressing me.

So instead, I lie around the house all day, since I'm still unemployed, and read or watch old tv shows.

I would kill to find a job. Unfortunately, no one seems to be interested in hiring part time workers. Everywhere I've applied wants full time, and I just can't do that with my school schedule. And since I waited so long to finally go back, I'm not letting that slip away from me. I will remain bored and broke to keep my grades up. My plan is to graduate within the the top 5% of my class.

I did get registered for Fall Semester, though. And it looks interesting, even if I did have to substitute a class I didn't really want to take in my science selection.

Accounting I
Geography (I wanted biology)
Computers 150
Math (no getting away from that one, is there?)

I also found out that I'll have to take 5 semesters of math, then 2 semesters of Statistics. So I plan to use a bit of my loan money to buy stock in Tylenol.

Also, for everyone in the D.C./Maryland vicinity, I'm currently scrimping together every penny I can and saving to take another vacation up that way again, most likely sometime next summer. When we get closer to the date and I know exactly when I'll be there, I want to get some stuff locked into place with meeting up and such.

I guess that's all for now, I'll report back as often as I can. I know I keep saying I'm going to post more than I do, it's just that nothing ever really happens in my life worth posting about. And who really wants to read about me lying around reading?

g'nite.
luvxander: (If you see my spine)
It's just occurred to me that it has been quite a while since I've posted anything here. So, since I'm ready for work a few minutes earlier than expected, I thought I'd take a moment to stop by and let everyone know that I'm not dead, nor have I been abducted by silly little alien creatures.

What I have been doing is working a lot. It's not hard work, or even tiring work. Yet, every day when I come home, I collapse on my bed and stay there until it's time to get up, shower, and go to sleep.

I hope you all can forgive me, for I've also, intermittently, been working on my little writing project. When I'm not blocked up, that is. *whimpers* Here's hoping I can still get it done by the end of January, which is not looking too likely at this point.

And now I have to run. Catch you all later.
luvxander: (Default)
It's almost 2:30 in the morning and I should really be in bed since I have to be at work at 8am. For some reason, though, I just cannot sleep, no matter what I do.

Oh well, I guess it's back to bed to lie in the dark for another 4 hours.

Night guys.

We went on a little trip to Best Buy to pick up a new wireless card for my desktop PC.

We had no idea, when we left, that we would be entering into the beginning stages of the next great flood on the way back. OMG!! So much rain.

Then, we're almost home, stopped at a red light just up the street, and lightning strikes the powerlines less than 20 feet from my car!!

I'll be fine, once my heart makes it back down into my chest.

Aargh!!

Do you realize just how bored you have to be to sit and refresh your flist every 2 minutes and then be frustrated because there's nothing new?

I have TV to watch, fic to read, writing to do, and cleaning to do, but I'm much too bored to contemplate doing any of that.

Whew!!

I just got home!!

I went over to my friends' Margaret and Jason's house tonight. We hung out for a while, then decided to go rent movies and cook instead of going out to eat and to a movie. We rented The Reaping, The Mist, Spiderwick Chronicles, and something called Fido about a pet zombie.

We made fried chicken, homemade mac & cheese, and a peach pie that we found in a weight watchers cookbook. It was so good, all of it, OMG!!

By the time we got finished eating, it was already getting late, but we went ahead and watched The Mist (which I loved, but they didn't), and The Reaping (which I'd seen already and liked it enough to watch again - they liked it too). By then, it was after 3am, so I decided to head home.

I am so tired. But I'm glad I got to hang out with them. I don't get to just hang out with many RL people. But now, I miss my online friends. So I'm going to do my best to be online tomorrow evening for anyone who wants to hit me up. I may be a bit distracted because, the Gods know, I can't sit still for anything, but I'll try to be there.

I'm really looking forward to Wall E too. I may see if Sonja wants to go hit a matinee tomorrow. Or just pop in on James and see it for free.

Now, I'm off to watch the new Doctor Who (thank you so much, you know who).

Also, OMG how much do I love the new(ish) Rhianna song, Take a Bow? A lot, that's how much.

hrm...

Okay, so....

A friend of mine asked me today, "Do you want to go to mississippi and stay with Angie and me?" Angie being her girlfriend, who lives in mississippi. I love Angie, and I love my friend (Sonja, btw), so I was all for it.

Now, I'm sitting at Angie's house, watching her kid, while those two run up to the store to get drinks and snacks. The store is less than a mile from the house, yet they've been gone for over an hour. Methinks I've become a handy babysitter. Me doesn't think that me is happy about this. I just tried to call Sonja and find out when they'll be home for the second time. I'm giving them 15 minutes to get home or I'm calling Angie's mom, taking Sonja's car, and going back home to Mobile.

Seriously, if you just wanted a babysitter, you could have just asked.

ION: I found out today that I have $183 that I didn't know I had. This was great news as we were going hungry and I was able to go get some groceries. YAY!!

I was going to jump on MSN to chat it up with [livejournal.com profile] sam_gamgee, [livejournal.com profile] eternalmusings, and [livejournal.com profile] angeljade tonight. But when we got over here, I found out she doesn't have wireless, and this was the first chance I had to get online.

So, I'm gonna go raid the fridge and play Halo. See you guys later.

*kisses*

So I'm finally getting back into watching Battlestar Galactica. I've made it through episode 6 of the current season and, I have to say, I'm not thrilled with President Roslin. I won't spoil anyone who hasn't seen it yet, but I'm just not happy with her anymore. I hope they'll fix that before the end.

In a completely different direction, I'm completely caught up on Doctor Who (thank you [livejournal.com profile] janedavitt) and just could not love this show any more without exploding from it. I really didn't think that I was going to like Donna at all, but I've been very surprised by her.

That's really all I'm watching right now as I wait for Stargate: Atlantis to come back to us.

In real life news, I've been working a lot lately. Corporate screwed us all over by changing not only our budget, but how our budget is determined. What this means to me, which we all know is the most important thing, is that now the managers (of which I am one of four) have to take up all the slack on shifts that we can no longer afford to schedule associates to work. Ever tried to close down a really big retail store with yourself and one other employee? If not, just trust me that it isn't fun.

I've been reading a lot lately too. I've decided to get caught up on the Inheritance trilogy, what with the upcoming release of Brisingr. I also picked up the first book in Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire series, Dead Until Dark.

Dead Until Dark, I'm actually enjoying. I hadn't expected to like it, but am pleasantly surprised to find myself drawn into the story and actually rooting for the main pairing, which is het *gasp*.

Eldest, I'm not enjoying quite so much. I don't know if it's because it's so wordy or the fact that he jumps between the different story arcs like a kid in a room full of cracks. (step on a crack, break your mother's back reference for you) Either way, it's very slow going, but I'm determined to get through it so I can get to Brisingr, once it's released, which I've been told is expected to be much more interesting than either of it's predecessor's and will, hopefully, tie things up nicely.

Now, thanks again to [livejournal.com profile] janedavitt, I want to get a copy of Luck in the Shadows by Lynn Flewelling and get started on that series. Unfortunately, no bookstore in town carries it, so I'll have to wait until my new debit card arrives so I can get it from Amazon.com.

That's pretty much it on the update of my life. I've spiraled up out of my descent into depression, so you may be seeing me around more. I won't promise (or threaten) it, but I'm hoping to be. I miss my ljbuddies.
