At the president's morning briefing, Donald Rumsfeld told George Bush
that the day before three Brazilian soldiers had been killed in Iraq.
To the secretary of defense's amazement, Bush reacted with a groan of
dismay, slumping forward at his desk and burying his face in his hands.
When he looked up, he was visibly shaken, almost in tears, his face ashen.
"Oh my God!" the president cried. "Tell me, exactly, how many is a 'brazilian'?"
