I give up.

Been sitting here for a little over two hours, trying to teach myself how to make decent icons. It's no use. I can't seem to find any simple icon tutorials. All the ones I've located seem to take it for granted that you already know how to use PSP. And most of those are for PSP 8, I have PSP 9.

Others want to teach you how to do colors and stuff to bases they've already made - Don't I need to know how to make the bases first?

Other things I can't teach myself how to do include making my website pretty. Right now it's passable. But I see so many out there that are really great, and I sneer at mine.

But I give up. Obviously, I'm just too stupid to get it. I shall go back to my old ways of begging others to make them and snitching them from shareable posts.

Is there a PSP community on LJ that you can check out? I know there's one for the GIMP (which is what I use), and they've got lots of tutorials and advice for making icons, links, etc.

I'd love to help you in any way I can. You're not stupid. Everyone has a point where they've got to start. I've been where you are. It's a rough ride at first.

What software are you using? What icon would you like to see yourself make?

See? That's the whole thing right now. I don't even know what kind of icons I want.I just want really pretty generic icons. I don't go too deeply into the fandom stuff anymore, as much as that saddens me.

I'm, maybe, going to try again some this weekend. We'll see how it turns out.

The process of making an icon is pretty generic no matter what pretty pictures you use. So long as it's cropped to the proper 100x100 size, you've got a base. There's a function to "crop" a picture no matter the software you use. Depending on whether you're using PSP or PSD will determine where you'll find the crop function.

I was totally the same until I found some great tutorials. Some have actions to download. Actions, in case you didn't know, do all the hardwork for you. You can always ask me for help. I know a little...but mostly thanks to Lawrence. So maybe it'd be better to ask him... But anyway...check them out. They're so useful.

The icon I've used was made using an action from one of those links. I would never have known how to do that, so an action doing it for you is a total bonus. Anyway, good luck. And if all else fails...go looking for other peoples icons and then try and copy them with your own icon. I've made a few of mine that way. It's not *technically* cheating.

Got 'em savededed to look over later. Working so much lately that I barely have time to breathe, much less anything else. Have a sneaking suspicion that that has something to do with my descent into depression again, the lack of sleep.

I'm, maybe, going to try again this weekend. We'll see how it turns out.
