Yeah, I woke up about half an hour AFTER the final test taking time at the Personnel board. That means I have to wait, at minimum, another week to go in and apply. And that means that I'm stuck in hell for another week, at least.

Target's application center (they have a little keyboard) wasn't working today, so I can't fill that one out either. But, the good news is that they're opening a new Fed Ex/Kinko store soon, bet they'll need help there.

I'm going to go and find something on my hard drive to watch since it's storming and the satellite went out.

And no, not the trailer park kind.

I just wandered over to watch the Ironman trailer.

I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed that Robert Downey Jr. was cast as Tony Stark. I've never been a fan of Downey's, and was never a huge fan of Ironman. So now it's looking rather like I'll not be seeing this movie.

But, Apple.com has a great selection of movie trailers for just about everyone.

[livejournal.com profile] byakuganchick - remember how you complained that the Beowulf movie looked too animated for you? That's because the entire movie is CGI. I'm thinking it may be a renter, what do you think?

ugh....now I have to go get ready for work. But thankfully, I'm off tomorrow.

Welcome to my life. Fire and brimstone are to the left, anything resembling nice and comfy is non-existant.

So, work tonight was crap. First of all, it takes a minimum of 4 people, plus manager, to run a shift at work. The assistant manager scheduled me with 2 workers. Second, she loaded us down with so much work, it would take a full shift three days to complete and expected it to all be done by the end of our shift. Then, about an hour before we closed, the general manager came into the store to pick up something and got completely irrate because, as he said, we hadn't gotten enough of our "list" completed.

I tried to explain that we were extremely short handed tonight and just weren't able to keep up with the workload, what with having so many people in and out of the store as we did. Apparently, that's just "excuses" and I should be able to do without them.

I wanted to scream!!!

This, along with a combination of events this weekend, some of which were, admittedly, my fault, has me in the market for another job. Desperately. Luckily, I found out that the library is currently hiring (thank you [livejournal.com profile] byakuganchick) and will be going Wed. to apply and take the little typing test they have for you. According to the lady I spoke with on the phone, I should be a shoe-in, considering my experience and the fact that I can type above 60 wpm. Though, I was warned that it's a rather long hiring process, so I may go get something temporary until that happens, because I don't know if I can stand to stay where I am.

ION: I was all settled into bed with my glass of milk and a short(ish) fic to read. I'd just started to get good and drowsy (the really good kind, where you know you're going to have good dreams). Then a comment on one of [livejournal.com profile] thebratqueen's posts made me squirt milk out of my nose. I'm awake now.

I think I'll pull out another fic to read. Since the Xander fic I've been following hasn't been updated yet (eyes she who knows she is eyed).

G'night all.

Ow.

I am so tired that I just want to curl up and cry, my back is killing me, my knees feel like they've been broken, my feet hurt so much that it's damn near orgasmic just to sit down. This was one fucking long ass day and I am so happy to be home.

ION: Dean and Sam are mere seconds away from being on my TV.
luvxander: (Not Monkeys)
Went to bed night before last feeling like shit. I did take your advice, [livejournal.com profile] eternalmusings, I took some medicine. All we had in the house was some children's Benedryl. That stuff knocked me on my ass, let me tell you. I was dead to the world for hours after I took it. Slept 3 hours past my alarm for work.

Woke up yesterday and just couldn't stand it. I stopped by the doctor's office to see if, on the off chance they'd let me speak to her, she could give me anything. She couldn't. Turns out, I had one of those fast hitting summer flu bugs that are going around lately. I should be a lot better in a couple of days, according to her. She, obviously, doesn't know to what extent a spoiled brat can drag his suffering. I'm thinking a couple weeks, at least. Maybe longer, if the cooking continues.

ION: I'm sorry I haven't been around much lately. I got that promotion at work and they've been kind of monopolizing every spare moment I have. I'm one of only 3 managers at a store that usually can't function with less than 5. Luckily, we've got another one starting next week, so things "should" start settling down.

Meanwhile, I'm giving snuggles and shout-outs to everyone who reads me. I'm not dead, though I feel like I am. And don't give up on me, I'll be back, bringing Xander along with me, as quickly as I can.

Love you guys *kisses*

And Now For Something Completely Different, A Tale of Fandom How Tos )

Owww, I hurt so much. Tonight we got very very long night. Huge truck worth of shipment that we had to get sorted and rolled out onto the floor. My third day of being a manager, second day of being in charge on my own, went not great.

First, I messed up one cashier's deposit. I totally forgot to enter her cash when putting her paperwork into the computer. Had to contact IT and get fussed at by them for all the extra work this puts them through with trying to fix our deposit. Then, though they weren't supposed to do anything until morning, they went ahead and did it anyway, making my end of night deposit appear to be over by almost $250. Major fixing to do on that. But, I left it for the GM tomorrow. Then, I hit a wrong button and accidentally shut down the server for our register network, during the middle of a huge rush. I wanted to cry. Called the GM at home in a major panic to see how to fix it, but felt stupid when told that there was a reset button. *eyeroll*

Didn't manage to finish sorting shipment until 11:30pm. Apparently, no one told GM that I'd never run a shipment shift before and had no clue how anything was supposed to be sorted and stacked. Luckily, Aaron was there, and he knew how it was done, so he helped a LOT.

I nearly collapsed at one point because I was much much too busy to stop for lunch. So I grabbed a cup of coffee, that's the good columbian [livejournal.com profile] obsessedmuch, and went right back to work. Idiot that I am, I'd taken my diet pill anyway and my blood sugar dropped so low that I actually fell because I was feeling so weak. Not hurt though, just feel like an idiot. Must remember to pick up some more snack crackers when I get paid. After renewing my LJ, purchasing user pics, paying the car insurance, paying my mother, gassing up my car, donating to my writercon fund, and praying that I have somewhere to stay at writercon (since I haven't heard from my planned room mate in 40 forevers), I should have just enough for about 3 packs of those crackers. Gonna have to spread those out.

There's a lot more I'd like to say here, but I'm so tired I can barely keep my eyes open, and I'm still weak from not eating. Hopefully, my tea will calm my brain enough for me to get some sleep.

See you guys later.
luvxander: (Pretty)
Tonight, I got promoted. Again. Second promotion since the beginning of the year. This is good?

I started out this year (and I don't mind telling you guys this, not like I'm bragging) as Cafe Specialist at work, making roughly $14,500 a year. At the end of January, 2 days after my birthday, I got promoted to Co-Manager Cafe, which brought my pay up to $19,000 a year. Today, when I get to work, I get told that I'm being promoted again. This time, to Co-Manager of the entire bookstore, and will be raised up to $20,500 a year. Good news? In under three months I've gone up $6,000 in yearly pay. Bad news? I have to change locations. I can't stay at my present store, #626, and keep the promotion, I have to move over to store #628.

Which isn't really that bad, I just would not pick to work under the General Manager I'm going to be working under. I mean, don't get me wrong, he's a great guy. I've just heard through the grapevine that he's not all that great a manager. And that he doesn't really do anything other than sit on his butt in the office, answering the phone, or showing the occasional customer to a book they want. But, oh well, that's what us Co-Managers get paid the big bucks for, right? And, in the long run, if I don't like where I'm at, it still looks good on a resume that I can take to Barnes and Noble and get paid probably twice what I make now.

And now for the part Lyndee should skip )

Okay, now progress yourselves out of my bedroom antics and on to the fandomish stuff. I have recs for a few different fandoms that I'm involved in.

BtVS/Angel: Ulterior Motives by [livejournal.com profile] yanagi_wa - A wonderful story that's just getting started. There's the Prologue and Chapter One already up, and it's promising to be a fantastic fic.

Stargate SG-1: The Cost of a Used Spaceship by Marie Blackpool - A truly beautiful story. Plus, it doesn't hurt that I love fics that include the robot SG1.

Stargate Atlantis: General & Dr. Sheppard - For lovers of the long, epic length AU fic. I was given this link just last night, and though I should have gone to bed when I said I was, I kind of got caught up reading this and devoured the entire thing in one sitting. I was a wreck trying to get up for work today, let me tell you.

Supernatural: Don't Know How to Let You Go - OMG!!! I can not stress enough how much I love this pairing. Before this fandom, I'd never really gotten into the whole incest thing (unless you count Xander/Xander). But these two brothers were made to be each other's bitches. I can't say it any better than that.

Hope hope hope you enjoy. I also hope that I can get back to you soon with more recs. But right now, I am foregoing fic to read the second installment in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. You guys should so check out The Lightning Thief. It's a new series by Rick Riordan, and is rumored to be the next Harry Potter. It's that good. I just got the book and I'm already half way through it. I'm totally addicted. So go, read. I swear, you'll enjoy it. And if you don't, you can pretend to sue me.

Night guys.
luvxander: (ab_morningperson)
Finally got to speak with my Manager at work about the emails and stuff. I asked him what was going on, and was told that I should ignore both emails. My application hadn't really been rejected, it was just a system thing where applications that sit for so long (I believe it's 60-90 days) with no further activity are spit out of the current file and you get an email about it. I'm still in the running for the co-manager position, he just said that before he actually gets serious about offering me any promotion, he wants me to be completely prepared and that I need a little more experience, which he's going to make sure I get. And that if and when I do become co-manager, I'll be fully trained. He's personally managing my training so that I'll be the best manager I can possibly be.

As far as the Assistant Manager application goes, I was told that the position had already been filled, so I need not worry about that one either.

I'm glad I gave it a day before talking to him now. If I'd gone up to him about it while I was still so upset, I'd have wound up saying things that I'd later regret and could possibly have gotten me fired.

But I have to run now and get to work before I'm really late. Sorry if none of this makes any sense, I'm just in a rush to get out.

BTW - my tooth is KILLING me, will someone please just shoot me in the head?
luvxander: (Default)
Today at work was just hell.

I got almost no sleep at all. For some reason, I kept waking up at every little noise. And that's just not like me. When I sleep, I sleep like the dead. No, I mean like the truly dead, not the bitten-and-will-rise-again kinda dead.

But, my keyboard works again.

[livejournal.com profile] eternalmusings and [livejournal.com profile] sam_gamgee, I owe you two a huge apology. I meant to get on MSN and chat tonight, I swear I did. But maybe you'll forgive me in a couple of days when you see why I couldn't.

I got involved in a yahoo chat with [livejournal.com profile] spikedluv and [livejournal.com profile] truly_tazi and got such a neat little bunny from a comment that [livejournal.com profile] spikedluv made. I don't wanna jinx it by talking about it, but it's really looking good, I think. I just hope you guys like Human AU's.

Another wierd thing about tonight?

Remember the email I spoke of last night, rejecting my application for a promotion at work? Well, I didn't get a chance to speak to the manager today, he was too busy on conference calls, but tonight I got the oddest email. It was an announcement letting me know that a job had been posted for an Assistant General Manager at our Daphne location and that it matched my criteria and they wanted me to apply for it.

The position I was just rejected for was for a Co-Manager job.

The wierd part comes in because you CAN'T be Assistant General Manager without first being a Co-Manager. It's completely against policy. You're not even allowed to apply for Ass. Manager until you've been a Co-Manager for at least 6 months. So, what I want to know is, wtf were they thinking? Are they torturing me?

This, to me, just smacks of disrespect to your employees and truly lets me know once and for all what this company thinks of us.

But, I will be speaking to the General Manager tomorrow. Phone calls be damned, he will make time for me.

OMG!!

Okay, I've just finished the last episode of Smallvile: Season 3.

All I can say is - WTF!!!!?????!!!!

End of season rant )

In other news, the General Manager was having nothing but positive things to say about my chances for the promotion to co-manager that I told a few of you about. We talked about it today, in fact.

Then, I get home today to find an email waiting for me, dated for today, about an hour after our talk, letting me know that I wasn't going to be getting it.

The worst part of it isn't that I was turned down. I knew that was a possibility. There were many more qualified applicants up for the same position. No, the worst part is the total lack of respect they showed by not even having the guts to tell me to my face. I guess that says a lot about what I, as an employee, mean to the company.

Now my only question is this:

ANYONE HIRING????

To all the guys I chat with on the messengers and told that I'd pop on tonight, I'm sorry I couldn't. Something happened to my computer. My keyboard just stopped working altogether. I got another keyboard from another, older, machine, but that one doesn't work either. My mom was using the computer downstairs for her eBay shopping stuff and finishing out her Avon things. (Yep, my mom has decided that she needs to be an Avon lady. Don't ask me.) Does anyone know if they have keyboards that plug into a USB port? Or should I go wireless? The thingies for them plug in by USB, don't they?

For now, I must bid adieu. I will be on tomorrow night for the Batpack chat, as well as other chats. I've already talked to my mom about using the computer in the living room, so that's all cleared up.

Night all.
